Almere
Sorry to be so slack about writing, but we have been deliciously lazy since we got here.
It took us about an hour to get organized when we arrived. Skip was happy the beast started first go and the bow thruster test worked. We were remembering last time when it failed ...
Sunday, after a slow start -the wine is included at the Wok Inn buffet :) - we puttered 15 minutes across to Zeewolde where the Albert Hijn supermarket is thankfully open on sundays. We found a spot on the quayside accessible by shopping trolly and went to provision. Such an array of lovely goodies! A bit of a schlep for skip though, as I can't lift anything heavy. Fridge, freezer and lockers full now.
Zoe on the wall in Zeewolde. The shops are only minutes away. Really good spot to provision. The boat in the foreground is for sale. Looks really comfy, but one would have to be colour blind. |
First supper aboard - bbq'd ribs in sticky sauce, potato salad for skip, quinoa salad for me and a big mix salad. Took 2 1\2 minutes to prepare and that was spent cutting open packets and hunting for the napkins. Skip did have to grill the ribs though, with feet up on the aft deck and a Hertog Jan. Shame, hey?
Zeewolde. Nice life, hey? |
After a quick visit to the Gamma hardware shop on Monday morning, we headed up the Randomeer to the lock into the polder. A bit breezy, but the wind died once we were inside and surrounded by forests.
After a couple of hours we found a quiet mooring for the night and put the bikes ashore for a lovely 19km cycle through the forest. Now that's what I've been longing for!
Getting the bikes off. |
Awoke Tuesday to rain and 14 degrees outside - oh it all feels so familiar...
Had to change our plan to drop the aft tent for a bunch of 2.5m bridges and take the short cut through Almere Haven. Not much fun in the rain though, so we are taking the longer way around as I write.
Bye, for now. Talk to you tomorrow.
Skip's favourite. Licorice shoelaces! |
Quick reminder. Click on the photos to make them bigger.
What a lovely start of your adventure--delicious, great bike trail & licorice shoelaces to boot!! Too bad not red/cherry licorice though--heehee, you know me....
